Big Bear Lake CA: The Place, Locations and Geography

The City of Big Bear Lake nestles within an elevated mountain basin formed by the San Bernardino Mountains, with elevations of approximately 7,500 feet (on an average) above mean sea level. And because of its fabulous geographical advantage, it has become one of the most popular vacation places in America today. The weather at The Big Bear Lake is truly exceptional. And I’m not the only one who thinks so either! The Big Bear Lake Solar Observatory (BBSO)is located in Big Bear Lake, California; and operated by the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The Big Bear Lake is a very special place when it comes to water management in the area, too. The Big Bear Lake Municipal Water District is an independent special district of the State of California, responsible for the overall management of Big Bear Lake.

Big Bear Lake has virtually all summer and winter sports. Downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow biking, snow scooting, hiking, back-country adventures, mountain biking, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, paddle boating, pontoon boating, sailing or power boating, wind-surfing, sail-boarding, waterskiing or jet skiing are just some of the many sports that Big Bear Lake offers.

One of the best new resorts in the Big Bear Lake is The Big Bear Frontier. The Big Bear Frontier is a beautiful resort, on the edge of the Big Bear Lake. It is also conveniently situated one block from Big Bear Lake's Village. The expansive resort stretches across from Big Bear Boulevard to the water’s edge. The resort offers a peaceful place to fish, right off their own beach. You can also moor your boat on the private docks, whenever the lake level permits. I was amazed to see the list of animals allowed-dogs and cats and mules and horses! What’s more, they allow you to keep birds for free! So if you want to go to Big Bear Lake, check out Big Bear Lake Hotel. Happy holidays!

Big Bear Lake : Hot and Cool Sports

Big Bear Lake is Southern California’s number one place to ski and snowboard. Host to two of Southern California's largest ski resorts, Big Bear Lake provides four seasons of abundant recreational opportunities. Southern Californians flock to Big Bear Lake to enjoy clean air, blue skies and a winter playground. In fact, many children growing up in Los Angeles see their first snow as an adult when they visit places like Big Bear Lake. Moderately challenging with numerous opportunities for beginning skiers, several ski resorts offer the chance to learn and practice skiing on Big Bear’s safe slopes. Winter crowds cause the town's 15,000 population to swell to at least four times that amount.

This is a busy time for Big Bear Lake, and cabins and rooms are in great demand. So if you are planning on some weekend skiing at Big Bear Lake, you’d be wise to reserve in advance. Also, reservations are often required for Winter ski passes, so when you come to holiday in Big Bear, come all booked. Check out the site Big Bear Lake for any help you need with that. This extremely useful website gives a lot of information, including prices, rooms, and local information.

Big Bear Lake's summer sport of choice is mountain biking. Big Bear Lake has hundreds of miles of trails, from challenging single track to wide-open forest roads, making it Southern California's Mecca for mountain biking. Many major race events are held by Team Big Bear at Snow Summit, including several television competitions. Big Bear Lake also hosts the NORBA bike races every year. Many experts and semi-pros use this series as a means of sharpening their skills and improving their fitness levels for the National competition.

Big Bear Lake has excellent summer and winter sports, so anybody inclined to be even a little athletic will really love it.

Big Bear Lake: A Merry Christmas, at Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake: The City

The first festival of the season, Thanksgiving, is something special in Big Bear Lake. Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, predicted snow showers turned into several feet of snow, as nature gave Big Bear Lake more to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.
Big Bear Village is the hub of celebrations for the Holiday Season. The traditional “Christmas in the Village” starting off on November 26, with a spectacular Christmas Tree Lighting Display at Big Bear Lake, is quite famous. Big Bear Village will have an old-fashioned Christmas gathering that includes wandering musicians, Victorian-style carolers, children’s choirs, the traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and of course, Santa Claus. The heart of the activities will be the corner of Pine Knot Avenue and Village Drive.

Big Bear Lake, with snow covered pine trees, the scent of fresh oven-baked gingerbread cookies, sidewalk musicians and a kaleidoscope of Christmas lights, promises an enchanting White Christmas. The traditional Christmas tree lighting ceremony is a dazzling display of bright lights that blend in beautifully with the natural alpine winter background. After the tree lighting ceremony, Santa makes his grand entrance into the village on an antique fire engine.

Big Bear has a huge Christmas planned, and has stocked its shops with unique Christmas presents to make Christmas special for anyone, including visitors from out of town who come to shop at Big Bear! The warm spirit of Christmas at Big Bear is reflected in its Christmas gifts. Big Bear’s charming shops and one-of-a-kind boutiques offer items not found in chain stores or urban shopping areas, making “Christmas in the Village” a genuine holiday experience. Some of the gift ideas that represent the Big Bear valley are winter recreation equipment and apparel, evocative mountain souvenirs, hand crafted collectibles, high quality nature photographs, antique treasures, wooden bear carvings, and nature books. At Big Bear Lake Christmas is truly the season to be jolly!

Big Bear Lake : What to see on holiday Here ?

Big Bear Lake is a wonderful place to spend the holidays. When you are at Big Bear Lake, don’t forget to absorb a bit of local color. One very interesting place to visit is the wood carver's shop on the outskirts of town. The antique shops which abound in this historically rich community are also worth a look. The Tuesday Farmer's Market in the summer is definitely a place to go to for the authentic taste of life as it is at Big Bear Lake.

In addition, there are a number of local pageants, celebrations, festivals and special events. There are Miner's Days, Oktoberfest and the “Fourth of July” lakeside fireworks spectacular, to name only some of the many celebrations spread evenly across the event calendar at Big Bear.

Big Bear Lake is a tourist destination, and takes this rather seriously. Big Bear actually has a place called the Visitors Center, staffed with knowledgeable and friendly people who are there to help people visiting Big Bear. The Visitors Center provides information on lodging, real estate, dining, pet-sitting, child-care, and other details- even telling you where you can take a guided Eagle Tour or an off-road adventure. You can get maps for hiking, biking, fishing and picnic and recreational areas here. It is also a good place to stop by for directions to the local zoo, the ski resorts or the local marinas.

One more thing that the Visitors Center offers is the “Adventure Passport" book, where you can win unique prizes, just by receiving discounts at popular area activities and merchants. The Adventure Passport allows you to take a journey around Big Bear and fill your book with Adventure Stamps.

But you don’t have to go all the way to Big Bear Lake and visit their Visitors Center before you go on a trip to Big Bear Lake. There is an easier way! You can get your reservations done, and even get a bit of local knowledge before you plan your trip, from Big Bear Lake Cabins .
